Beef: 1/2 or Whole Cow Purchases
Ordering a ½ or Whole Cow from Red Wolf Farms
Buying beef by the half or whole cow is one of the smartest (and tastiest) ways to fill your freezer. Not only do you save money compared to buying individual cuts at the store, but you also get the peace of mind of knowing exactly where your beef comes from - right here on our pastures in Cleveland, GA. A half or whole cow order gives you a variety of cuts, from juicy steaks to hearty roasts, to plenty of ground beef for quick weeknight meals. Plus, it’s grass-fed and finished, which means lean, healthy, and downright delicious.
How It Works
Reserve your beef — Send us an email at info@redwolffarms.farm to start your order.
Place your deposit — This non-refundable deposit locks in your cow and helps us plan with our butcher.
Fill out your cut list — Choose how you’d like your beef processed (steaks, roasts, ground beef, etc.). Don’t worry, we’ll guide you through it when it’s time.
Pick up your beef — Once the processor works their magic, we’ll let you know when your beef is ready for pick-up on the farm. Bring a cooler if you’re traveling more than 2 hours (trust us on this one).
From farm to freezer, it really is that simple.
What Makes Our Beef Different
Our cattle are 100% grass-fed and finished - no grain, no feedlot finishing, no shortcuts. They live their best lives on pasture, which means healthier, leaner beef that’s rich in flavor, packed with nutrients, and raised with care for both the land and the animal. We don’t just raise beef; we raise it the right way.
First Time Ordering?
Don’t worry - you don’t have to be a beef expert to order from us. We walk you through the entire process, answer your questions (like “How much freezer space do I need?”), and help you feel confident in your choices. Think of it as farm-to-table made easy, without the overwhelm. By the time you open your freezer to see all those neatly packed cuts, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

FAQs
-
No, our cattle are 100% grass-fed and finished, which makes them naturally very lean. Because of this, there isn’t leftover lard to render. Instead, you’ll receive ground beef at a 90/10 ratio (90% lean, 10% fat), which reflects the healthy composition of our beef.
-
It depends on your drive home. We provide sturdy wax-lined boxes for transporting your beef. If you’re driving more than 2 hours, we recommend bringing coolers to keep everything at a safe temperature.
For a ½ cow, plan on 150–200 quarts of cooler space.
For a whole cow, plan on 300–400 quarts of cooler space.
-
Yes! Soup bones and dog bones are available as options on the cut list form you’ll complete before processing. Many of our customers love adding them to their order for broth or pets.
-
A general rule is to allow 4–5 cubic feet of freezer space per 100 pounds of beef. A ½ cow usually requires 7–10 cubic feet, while a whole cow will need around 14–20 cubic feet of freezer space. A standard upright or chest freezer is perfect.
-
Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after processing but before trimming and cutting. The take-home weight (what you’ll actually put in your freezer) is typically 60–65% of the hanging weight, depending on your cut preferences (bone-in vs. boneless, fat trimming, etc.).
-
Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your ½ or whole cow. The balance is due at pickup. Deposits ensure we reserve your beef and allow our farm to plan responsibly.
-
Processing generally takes at least 3 weeks, which includes dry aging for flavor and tenderness, cutting, and packaging. We’ll notify you as soon as your order is ready for pickup.
-
Yes. All of our beef is processed at a USDA-inspected facility, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with all federal standards.
-
It means our cattle are raised on pasture and eat only grass and forage for their entire lives—no grain, no feedlot finishing. Grass-fed and finished beef is leaner, higher in Omega-3s, and raised in a way that supports both animal health and land stewardship.
-
At this time, orders are available for farm pick-up only. We’ll provide available pick-up dates and times, and if you need special arrangements, we’re happy to discuss options (including storage for a small fee).
-
Yes, you’ll get to fill out a cut list form where you tell us how you’d like your beef packaged-like how thick you want your steaks, how big you’d like your roasts, or if you want more ground beef. Once we place the order with the processor (butcher), they’ll do their best to match what you ask for.
But it’s important to know that what we receive back from the processor is what you’ll receive, and sometimes not every cut is possible. That’s because each cow is unique, and depending on the size of the animal and the cuts you choose, the butcher may not be able to give you everything on your list.
Think of it like putting together a puzzle-there’s only so many pieces, and how you choose one piece can change what’s left for the others.
